Twitter vs. Plurk

Micro-blogging social networks are now full effect, well have been for some time but has been pushed to the forefront the past few months due to the lack of updates via Twitter and the increase of usage of Plurk. So, why are they so popular? Let’s explore that shall we…

If you’ve seen previous post about using twitter I admit I was a fan even with all the “problems“:

…in all honesty these ‘problems’ are fixed within 48-72 hours and a massive database that twitter houses I think that’s pretty impressive.

Yet, after being apart of the plurking community this month I have quickly jumped the twitter boat because realistically the 48-72 hours of downtime at Twitter is just plain ridiculous. We are society of right here - right now. Twitter’s main job is just that. To be able to get a message quickly to the masses without interruption.

Plurk doesn’t seem to have this problem and if they do the downtime is extremly minimal ranging around 20-30 minutes (with major updates). Also, with plurk you are able to build networks via “cliques” and actually have a conversation. Now, while the timeline can become distracting at times it is nice to see the ability to view other plurkers postings that you might have missed.

Who wins? Well, in a 1 round K.O. Plurk is the winner but this could chnage rather quickly since plurk is still in its infant stages and still implementing features: ranging from blocking users to a basic search function. All of which can be seen over at Plurk Guide.

Of course this is one mans opinion what about you? Which social networking plateform do you perfer between the two?
